Avian Snapshots

Text Box: I don’t need to know
what kind of bird is singing
to enjoy its song

Blackbird in morning
his dark body has swallowed
the sun where he flies

What a racket! Bold
crows dive at the sleeping owl
and chase him away

Sudden stillness. My
broom stops to let the redwing
blackbird sing to me

There in the distance
that spot of pink - can it be?
a flock of spoonbills

Lonely country road -
dove not used to cars, she flies
under ours. Made it!

Wings back, feet forward
wild ducks alight on the pond
then south for winter

Blue heron at dusk
stands in tall grass. Strong wings flap.
Gone! Over the roof
