Pine, Juniper, Sycamore

Text Box: Ancient pine, deep roots.
Despite its age it dances
in the cool spring breeze

Beside the tall pine
Three naked sycamores, white
Arms against the green

How tall the green pine!
Look! Even clouds are tangled
in its top branches

Snowy white branches—
three sycamores reach for the
bright blue winter sky

Twisted junipers
crawl in the high desert sand
begging for water

Wooden arms lifted
leaves brittle from summer's drought
the trees pray for rain

The sycamore leaves
have turned to silver - raincoats
to shed the spring rain

Soft whisper of pines
turns to moaning as lightning
cracks their helpless limbs

The dead tree should stay -
it's still the home of birds that
sing on its bare limbs.
